This magical island of 48 km2 is located in the district of Lebu, 30 km off the coast of Tirua in the Bio-Bio Region.

Its more than 300 inhabitants form a community that is dedicated mainly to fishing, seaweed, agriculture and increasingly to tourism activities.

The island's ecosystem is characterized by the presence of a large native forest in the center, on a mountain range. This forms the Mocha Island National Reserve, where a wide and diverse network of flora and fauna species interact with a high degree of endemism.

The Pink-footed Shearwater, the Mocha Fern, the Churrín de la Mocha and many other unique species stand out.

What do we want to achieve?

  • Promote a regenerative culture in the Mocha Island community.

  • Increase the community's resilience to climate change, addressing issues of food security and freshwater reserves.

  • Regenerate degraded soils on the island

  • Rescue and revalue the biocultural identity of the island

  • Protect the biodiversity of the ecosystems, particularly the forest and the habitat of the Pink-footed Shearwater.

  • Increase native vegetation cover.
